Random Thoughts...(04/03/15)

So it's been a while since I last hunted and pecked. I guess I didn't have much to say. LOL. Surprisingly! I can be quite voluble at times and I know there have been tons of times that I said to myself that I have to put down another blog. Yes I do talk to myself. Whatever! I amuse myself and talking to myself allows me to hear it outside of my head. My head is complicated enough as it is!

So what prompted me to start typing on this beautiful day? First I have to say that this day has been absolutely gorgeous. Sunny and a warm sun. Temps hitting 80F which is almost 27C. Awesome day! Okay I meander I know. It is what I do! I worked outside tending to my grass (the legal kind) on my front lawn and making sure that my newly planted iris buds are getting water. Oh my BBG talking about gardening! LOL.

So my plan is to start each paragraph with the word so. Chuckles to himself. So not only do I talk to myself I even chuckle to myself. Okay I need to get this down before I meander some more a la Adam Duritz of Counting Crows performing live.

So there is that word again. LOL. Yesterday I donated a pint of my O+ blood at Fluor Field and besides getting some Greenville Drive swag (tickets, ballcap and some ballpark food), I got the added benefit of feeling pretty pumped about doing a good deed. My original plan after donating was to drop into Mac's Speed Shop and partake in their awesome selection of beers on tap and grab a bite to eat. But alas I read the dang paperwork that they gave me when I answered the million questions of questionable behavior that I did not partake in my earlier days and I guess what I thought was questionable behavior way back when was pretty lame.

So anyways one of things aka effing rules that you are expected to follow after donating blood is waiting to have alcohol at least an hour later and after a hearty meal. Well ixnay my opportunity to embark on a high gravity beer adventure as all I had eaten yesterday (Thursday) was a healthy salad and that was five hours earlier. There are times that common sense actually prevails in my life. I hate those times. LOL. Yesterday was one of those times. Dang!

So having had one of those sensible BBG moments I figured I should go home and feed BooBoo Dammit. I did have to stop and get some veggies and more importantly good beer on my way home as at some point I was going to have a hearty meal on April 2nd. LOL.

So besides the cool ballcap and the ticket vouchers which I can use singly or dare I say on a date, they gave me some ballpark food which consisted of a large bag of roasted peanuts (yum), a bag of doritos (less yum) and a 20 oz Pepsi (semi yum as it isn't beer). I don't think that food freebies were considered hearty given that I did want to have a beer or seven on a night before a day off so off I went to my car to head back home.

So on my way to my car I passed by a gentleman sitting on a bench in front of the church and it was plain to see that he was having a tough time. I was there once in mid 20s when I spent a couple months homeless and being on the fringes of society. Fortunately in my case that happened in a place where social agencies were in place to help people like I was. Not sure if we have that here. Having been there in mind and reality I try to make eye contact with those less fortunate. It isn't all altruistic. Sometimes it is a purely a self-defense mechanism to be prepared just in case.

So anyways the gentleman says hey and asks how I am doing. I look at him and say things are good. He looked at the stuff in my hands (the peanuts, doritos and soft drink) and then told me that he was hungry. I was there once I was never able to panhandle or beg. I just couldn't do that though as to me it meant I would have to look at someone in the eye; at someone who was higher on the totem pole of life in my mind and ask for help. I have noticed when being asked to give something that those asking look at people straight in the eye. When I was there I couldn't do that. It's an amazing gutsy move. I know I have been there. He was grateful for my "gift".

So bumping into the gentleman on the bench in front of the church in front of Fluor Field was a great remember when of where I once was and where I am now. Things are not perfect but things are good!

So in the words of the members of the band Fun as well as their producer....Carry On ....

Never On Sunday (10/18/14)....

Well it has been a while since I hunted and pecked on my keyboard. I guess I have something to say once again. Perhaps it's because the never ending election cycle has started back in earnest down here and I get to be regularly pissed off listening and seeing Koch Bros. election buying BS and lies that they are trying to pass of as editorial content while I am trying to watch the greatest professional sports team ever (Montreal Canadiens) play hockey on a Saturday night.

Well here's a big fuck you to fossil fuels producers! The environment does matter! "Drill Baby Drill" proponents are fucking delusional! Global warming aka climate change is a fact! Home schoolers should not get tax breaks and the NRA is fucking nuts!

Okay I have pissed off half of my FB friends in less than four complete sentences. Who says that one can not accomplish great things on a Sunday? LOL!

Anyways I have Windows 8 on this desktop. I hate it. I am too old for this app nonsense. Where the hell is my CD player? Yay I found it! I just popped in a live performance CD from Winnipeg's own RazorBack. One of the members of the band is Dave Seifert who I have known via my job and his job for the last hmm 20 years at least. His band performed at the Park Theater on Osborne St. in Wpg. back in November 2011 and he sent me a copy of their 1st set on CD. Tons of great classic rock featuring Dave's lead guitar prowess. One day I will make it to one of his shows. They just need to schedule a show between the months of June and August because I am not going to Winnipeg during their 9 months of Canadian winter. I want to see Dave play Free's "All Right Now" and "Mississippi Queen" live. Great lead work there!

I actually got on the computer to look for some recipes to make a turkey stock base for soup and then I somehow ended up on my Blogspot page. Hmm! Must be a Windows 8 mystery! LOL. Anyways this blog was supposed to be about my bad decision to go to Costco on a Sunday morning after church let out. I never made it there I guess. I will have to try this once again next week before the Judas Priest concert at the Charter Amphitheater.

Peace out rock'n'rollers and as Rob Halford so aptly puts it "Livin' After Midnight" is the way to go....

Meandering On A Sunday Morning..Another Word For Babbling... (06/16/2013)

Well I am on coffee Kahlua number two this morning and I already have a load of whites in the dryer and am fixing (haha) to get a load of darks into the washer. I used fixing in a sentence just now and earlier this week I used y'all in a sentence; it's official I have been southernized. LOL. Next I will be asking for grits with my eggs. Okay that will never ever effen happen! I have been down that road less traveled a time or two and I was definitely a lost soul in the papier mache taste land.

I even folded the cloth dinner place mats that have been sitting on the dryer for the last month or so. It could be even longer that they were there actually as I know that whites have ended up on top of those several times in the last couple of months. It is absolutely incredible or perhaps ludicrous is a better word how I can put off doing things that literally take minutes to fix, clean, put away, etc. etc. and then bemoan the fact that my house is a tip. LOL. Maybe I like being a whiny bald man. Emphasis on whiny.

Music on the radio is getting interesting once again. Love hearing bands like The National, The Barr Brothers, City and Colour, Mumford and Sons, Half Moon Run, etc. The focus seems to be on the lyrics and understated musicianship. Throw in new stuff from Muse, The Queens of the Stone Age and The Foo Fighters and it's fun to turn on the radio and find out what's next on the radio dial. Not always the same old same old.

In my lazy mode yesterday I happened upon a Cheers retrospective on one of those TV stations that I have that helps explain why the TV part of my Charter bill is over $100. Anyways the part I caught was about all these famous people that have had guest appearances or cameo roles. One of them that brought the memory machine back into operation was the Evan Drake character played by Tom Skerritt. I googled him afterwards as I haven't seen him in too many things lately at all. Turns out that he is 79 yrs. old. Geez Louise I still picture him as Mike "Viper" Metcalf in 1986's "Top Gun". Wow time flies when you are busy living and accumulating debt. LOL.

I guess that today I will have to mow the back part that passes off as a lawn. Ms. Carolyn will be happy that I do so. I should get out there in the next little bit before it gets ridiculously sticky. I did the front yesterday late in the day and I got totally soaked in sweat. Not a pretty sight to have this 51 yr. old man's body in a totally soaked t-shirt form fitting what used to be a fit body. Yeah live well be well my derriere! LOL.

Okay rock and rollers time for breakfast and perhaps another coffee Kahlua. Perhaps. Haha. How about effing likely! Peace out and don't forget to brush your teeth from time to get rid of that broccoli bit you had in your salad one day last week!

Random Thoughts On A Long Weekend (05/17/13)

Okay I am just going to post some random thoughts here as I have a serious sinus headache thing going. Not sure where that came from but I sure as heck have one! Many of these will be in question form and one day I will delve deeper a la Jacques Cousteau and come up with a blog about some of the tidbits I am about to type about.

Q: What is with the current or recent mayors of Toronto, Montreal and Laval?

A: A drunk and crackhead and two guys out of the Sopranos cast shaking down contractors. I think they missed the civic lesson from JFK's famous inaugural address from 1961.

Q: Why is Danny Espinosa (current 2nd baseman of my Nats) still in the majors? He has a .177 BA, .208 OBP and is striking out every 4th at bat and has 10Ks for every walk.

A: There is no rhyme or reason why he is on the roster. Kind of like SC voters on the coast voting a liar and adulterer as a conservative representative of the House.

Q: Why does low on a gas stove top range really mean you are pretty much cooking at medium heat?

A: Is it a conspiracy from the natural gas companies to use more gas? I know an answer in form of a question.

Q: Are any Canadian hockey fans still watching the playoff games if they aren't fans of the Ottawa Senators?

A: Not anytime soon is the response from my purely anecdotal survey of Canadian ex-pats in the South.

Q: What is with SC drivers texting while driving without seatbelts on local interstates?

A: Perhaps the family gene pool is rather shallow and they think accidents won't happen to them despite all of the stats (i.e. facts) that back up their argument to the contrary.

Q. Why does HuffPost think I care about what the Kardashians are up to be it in their clothing choices, their latest 2 week bedroom fling or whether or not they have more nip slip incidents or panty lines in their clothing choices?

A: Purely rhetorical question. There is no answer!

Q: Who is Kendrick Lamar and Kid Ink and why are they playing at the Charter Amphitheatre on June 21st?

A. See answer to previous question.

Q: $8 for a large beer at the Bi-Lo Center or Charter Amphitheatre? Yuengling is bottled in Florida and it is not considered a domestic beer in Florida? Swill like Budweiser, Miller, Coors, etc. etc.?

A: To paraphrase Spock: "Your logic was impeccable, Marc. We are in grave danger!"

Okay I need to get outside and get rid of more weeds. While I have grass growing where it never grew before I still have an inordinate amount of weeds flaring up.

Peace out from the Bald Guy!

Almost There

Well it's about 11pm or as us Canadians say "it's a boot 11." People say I sometimes pronounce it a boot. Honestly I don't think I so. I know there are words that I pronounce differently but that isn't one of them. Now if you said the word garage that I would buy hook line and sinker. I pronounce it as gaa-raj as opposed to gaw-rodge like they do here. I'm 50 I am way too old to change the way I speak. It's bad enough that people have caught me saying y'all. That is so effing wrong coming out of my mouth. Smack me down if you catch me saying that.

Okay I didn't park myself in front of my desktop to wax philosophically on how I pronounce words. It's just what I typed. I babble and I babble well. Sadly I haven't figured out a way how to make money babbling yet. There's hope yet.

I was up way early this morning all stressed about work. I slept in fits and starts and was at work before 730am which is not effing normal for me. H was over at his buddy's place last night so I didn't have GTech chauffeur duties this morning so "I hopped on the bus Gus, Made a new plan Stan" and headed into work early to try to get a step up on my many, many tasks that I am behind on. I actually felt like I made headway today. I may be delusional though. Ha!

By mid-day I was yawning away. My body clock is an effing mess. I picked H up at GTech after work. Came home. Turned on the ballgame at 7pm and promptly napped for an hour. The cat woke me up. She's normally not too vocal but H had the door closed to what I call his game room where her food and litter is and she wanted in so she started meowing. It was annoying and it woke me up! Just as well because I had stuff to do. I had the chance to catch up on some work emails. I had fallen behind after spending a couple of hours in meetings earlier today.

Good thing strike that great thing is that tomorrow is Friday.Yay for Friday. Hopefully it will warm up a bit for Main Street Friday. There's a good band playing tomorrow night. I think I saw them last year. Then again I don't remember what shirt I wore to work on Wednesday so I could be wrong. LOL. I'm laughing as I am probably wrong.

That's it for now. As the Austrian Oak has said in the past, "I'll be back."
