Whole Lot of Nothing Done
Just about halfway through day two of nine day break from work including weekends. I haven't done anything yet since my break started. I haven't even left the house since coming home from Bailey's on Friday night. I still have a couple of newspapers sitting in the driveway. It even took me two days to post this blog.
I woke up this morning (Sunday) around 830ish with a faint red wine hangover. I polished off most of a bottle last night when I decided that 10pm was a good time to open a bottle of Apothic and make a soup from scratch. I searched for a recipe on the AllRecipes.com website that I like to use for cooking finds and came up with a cabbage, potato and tomato soup.
The cooler night temperatures kind of encourage comfort foods and as I had all of these root vegetables I figured it would make for a nice and hearty soup. Started off with a quick saute of onions, celery, potatoes and some garlic. Once I had that had gotten going I added chicken bouillon cubes and water and brought that to a quick boil. I added some roughly chopped cabbage and then some diced organic tomatoes, Italian seasoning, salt, pepper and for a bit of zing some hot sauce. Brought all of that to a boil and then let it all simmer for a bit after adding some organic chicken broth to add some more liquid. By about 1115 it was ready to eat. Harrison gave me the two thumbs up so I did pretty good I think. I actually two large bowls for breakfast this morning. LOL. I eat rather weird on weekends. One of the perks of being single and marching to the beat of my own drummer. The soup actually helped me get rid of that slight headache that I had earlier.
My big plan for today is to listen to more 70s music on Sirius and to finish reading my latest Randy Wayne White book (Dead of Night) and then a whole lot of nothing. I have several days to get to steam cleaning carpets in the house and whatever else cleaning I can think of to do. LOL. I am not banking on a hugely productive week. Smiles.

Spring Cleaning Of Sorts
Since getting up early this morning to bring H to work, I figured that I should start cleaning up around the house. Kind of a spring cleaning of sorts. Now in Schlewing's World there tends to be some dilly-dallying as I go about cleaning. The number one rule is that I have to music on while I am doing this. So I got the 70s station on Music Choice going since about 8am or so. Brewed some fresh coffee and then quickly wrote some thoughts on that phenomenal Dire Straits song.
Since then I've sorted through the piles of newspapers in the dining room and did triage to get the crosswords out before scrapping the rest. I then emptied and refilled the dishwasher and will need to empty it out in a little bit. I did the pots and pans in the sink using some dollar store dishwashing liquid. I should really test out the quality of the cheap liquid vis-a-vis the national brands. It seems to me that the soap suds last 5 minutes at best with the cheap stuff and then I feel that I am washing in grease water. Ugh that is a disturbing vision. Not quite as bad of a vision as one of a naked Republican male though. Ha!
Okay back to the topic at hand Schliv. I then started on a load of laundry. Whites needed to be done. I then headed outside to my deck to sweep it off good. In the last week my deck has been attacked by green fluffy polleny stuff. I am not even sure where it comes from. All I know is that there is lots floating around. This is the stuff that ends up on cars in the Upstate in the month of April. That's when pretty much any vehicle that is outside for part of the day gets this lovely green film of pollen all over it. So I finished that and then decide to start pulling more weeds that are on what passes for my lawn on the left side of the house. I have this patch of what used to be mostly grass about 6-8 feet wide to 20 feet long that has been taken over by weeds. I just filled about 3/4 of a 13 gallon garbage bag with this stuff. Yuck. This is the 3rd bag I have done since a couple weekends ago. I can actually see the end of this task. I just decided to take a break as my glasses were getting fogged up from the sweat dripping off the top of my head. I need to lose weight. It's getting critical. I decided to take a break and reward my hard work with a Samuel Adams "Mighty Oak Ale". Good tasting beer. Okay I think my break is up. I still have lots to do around the house. No more dilly dallying and typing. LOL. Well for now.

Monday er...Tuesday Thoughts
This is going to be a short one. I am in the middle of writing a longer blog on a memory thing that came back to me yesterday but at this point I don't want to go back to that one just yet.
Weird. I went to work today after taking yesterday (the 2nd off) and it really felt like a Monday. I think I need another week or so to become acclimated to 2012 and being back in regular world mode. H is back in class next week so that will help get me back in the routine.
So this morning after getting my first coffee downstairs in the caf I had the great idea of weighing myself. That was not a brilliant move on my part. I was in shock seeing where I am at on the 3rd day of January 2012. It's absolutely no wonder why my sciatica is causing me issues for the last little while. Kind of explains why my knees hurt some at times. I kind of blame all of this on rapidly approaching 50 yrs. old when I should really be putting the onus on this weight that I have gained ever since I quit smoking in March 2010. I am breaking records on a monthly basis weight wise and this is not good. I am going to have to make some lifestyle choices. I am not comfy in my skin right now.
Anyways it was busy at work as it normally is at the beginning of the month. Day zipped right by. I dropped in at WallyWorld for a couple of household things and grabbed a really lame chicken sandwich while I was there. Lesson learned. LOL.
Got home at around 630 after dealing with the usual driving idiocy on the roads here. I wonder if they will ever ban or restrict cellphone usage here while driving. Maybe it it just makes too much sense. It's getting scarier by the day and I am hyper-vigilant on the roads here.
I had some leftovers from the pasta with a white cream sauce that I made yesterday and then watched some of the Iowa caucus coverage. Santorum is in the lead or right near the lead tied with Romney. Insanity prevails in Iowa.
Thank goodness for the 70s music channel. At least they are playing some good songs. I am singing along to the Carpenters. OMG yes the Carpenters. I better put down the glass of cabernet that I am having.
I spent some time doing laundry and cleaning up the kitchen somewhat. I took out the fixings for chicken marinara for tomorrow night. It should be a good supper I think. Bought a nice Italian red to go with it as well.
I ran my month-end numbers for work. I am not happy. I should have done better. I guess in a way it is good that I did this tonight. It will make tomorrow a better day. I think I managed to get rid of all the "crappy' things out of the way today. LOL.
Schlewing out. Time to listen to Lobo on the 70s station!
